Attorney at Law | Advocate for Families | Angel in Adoption
Judy Sartain’s journey into law began as a midlife career change inspired by a deep desire to make a meaningful impact in the lives of others. Raised in rural Kentucky and grounded in strong values of family and service, Judy has now spent 30 years practicing law in Georgia, dedicating herself to helping families grow through the life-changing process of adoption. As a dedicated adoption attorney, she focuses on Georgia adoption laws to ensure that every family has the support they need.
As both an adoptive mother of two and biological mother of three, along with being a proud grandmother, Judy brings unmatched empathy and personal insight to her work. After years of practicing in general family law, she has returned full-time to her greatest professional passion: adoption law and helping form families.
In addition, Judy is a highly skilled adoption attorney well-versed in contested adoptions, where a biological or legal parent objects to the adoption. In these sensitive and often emotional cases, she vigorously defends her clients’ right to adopt, bringing both legal precision and heartfelt advocacy to the courtroom.
Her outstanding work in family law has earned her national recognition, including being named a Congressional Angel in Adoption in 2023—an honor celebrating individuals who have made an extraordinary difference in the lives of children.
Judy is a Fellow with the Georgia Council of Adoption Lawyers and the Academy of Adoption and Assisted Reproduction Attorneys, and is admitted to practice in the State of Georgia, the Georgia Court of Appeals, and the federal courts of Georgia.
Throughout her career as an adoption attorney, Judy has finalized between 900 and 1,000 adoptions, each one a unique story of hope, love, and new beginnings. Her experience in family law is vast and varied, representing clients from all walks of life. She handles a wide range of Georgia adoption matters, including: DFCS (Department of Family and Children Services) adoptions, agency adoptions, step-parent adoptions, independent private adoptions, relative adoptions, adult adoptions, domestication of foreign adoptions, and interstate adoptions.
She is also the author of A Brief Handbook on Georgia Adoption Law and a frequent speaker at professional continuing legal education seminars across the state, where she shares her expertise as an adoption attorney on a range of Georgia adoption topics. For Judy Sartain, adoption isn’t just a practice area in family law—it’s a calling. She meets every client with compassion, understanding, and unwavering commitment to guiding them through one of life’s most important journeys: building a family.
